Drip, Drip, DRENCH!

If you ask me why I love Camp Phillip, fun would definitely be included on my (very long) list of reasons. I think most campers here would agree.

Yet, the high ropes course, swim raft, and crazy toys like zoogles aren’t always what make this place so action-packed. Sometimes all you need is a bucket of water and a creative staff member.

Today at outdoor sports campers beat the heat by playing an entertaining game of “Drip, Drip, Drench” (think “Duck, Duck, Goose” with splashes of water.) It’s a classic camper favorite, along with games like Screaming Yellow Zonkers, Alaskan Baseball, and even shoe-fling competitions.

So did the campers have fun? I think this cool photo captured by one of our photographers speaks for itself:

Today’s passage: Titus 3:7
“…so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

Right on Target

While I personally prefer a goodhearted joust, the archery range was the place to be at camp today.

Campers were able to test their aim as they shot not just at plain targets, but at ones with drawings of monsters attached! Little “extras” make activities more meaningful in more ways than one: added excitement and increased opportunities for spiritual application.

So what if someone missed the target—what a great opportunity to talk about ways we can stay on track with God’s commands in our own lives. That certainly sounds like a good aim to me!

Today’s passage: Luke 11:28
“He said, ‘Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it.’ “

Ahoy!

Opening days are always exciting…especially when they happen on a Wednesday!

Today had a little more thrill than usual as the newest addition to our fleet of ships, the OSS (Our Savior’s Service) Marigold, was revealed during waterfront orientation.

While every opening day includes an introduction to the rules down at the lake, this particular group of Sonrise campers got to see the new water kayak off on her maiden voyage. In addition to canoes and rowboats, campers will get the opportunity to sail away on the OSS Marigold with the assistance of their counselors.

I’d give it a spin (or should I say stroke) myself, but my armor rusts so easily!

Today’s passage: Proverbs 21:21
“He who follows righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness, and honor.”

Knights of the Day

"But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet." (1 Thessalonians 5:8)

Summer camp is underway and already I love it. (This year's theme meshes quite well with my occupation. I am a knight, after all...)

As thrilled as I am to be here, I can tell the summer staff are even more excited to have the opportunity to share God's amazing love with the hundreds of campers who will be here this summer.

Each day I'll give you an insider's look at the awesome things going on at Camp Phillip this summer. Feel free to share this link with family and friends!

Thanks for checking in!
